My Five Least Anticipated Films of 2015
I don't normally talk about stuff I'm not interested in here on nerdy views, but since I already told you about the films I'm anticipating this year, it seemed only fair to devote some time to the ones I'm not so psyched about. I could have just put together a list of romantic comedies, but these are high profile films I feel like I should be interested in. But for one reason or another, I'm just not. And who knows, maybe you're excited about one of these films, and you can try to convince me otherwise.
5. Inside Out
What's it about?: Inside Out takes place in the mind of a young girl, Riley Anderson, where five emotions try to lead her through life.
Why I should be excited but I'm not: Pixar is generally one of my favorite film studios. They've made some truly awesome movies including the Toy Story trilogy, The Incredibles, WALL-E and Up. But is the bloom finally off the rose? Pixar's last few movies have been some of the least critically receptive and I just haven't been interested in any of them since Toy Story 3. Add to that a plot that doesn't interest me and simply reminds me of a failed Fox sitcom called Herman's Head, and I just feel pretty "eh" about Inside Out.
When it opens: June 19th

Terminator: Genisys Trailer Breakdown
The fact that I'm finally getting to my breakdown of Terminator: Genisys four days after the premiere of the trailer should give you an indication of the enthusiasm level I have for this film. The first two films in the series written and directed by James Cameron are science-fiction masterpieces and that legacy is the only reason I'm giving this reboot a shot. Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines was pretty much a lazy rehash of Judgment Day, but still worth watching if only to see Arnold Schwarzenegger as a Terminator again. Salvation unfortunately was a complete train wreck. Eschewing the time-travel aspect of the previous films, Salvation took place in the future during the war with the machines. The lack of Schwarzenegger as well as any resemblance to any other movie in the franchise made it the lowest rated of the series as well as the least profitable. Now with Genisys, according to the trailer, the "rules have been reset." They've brought back Arnold, and "rebooted" the franchise making this one an alternate timeline combining elements from the first two films in the series. You know, the good ones...
As if this series could get any more complicated. Try to wrap your brain around my breakdown of this trailer.
The trailer starts in the future with John Connor (Jason Clarke) addressing his men, one of whom is Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney).

Terminator: Genisys Tease
Yup, it's a tease for the Terminator: Genisys trailer that's coming out tomorrow, and the biggest surprise is that it looks like the T-1000 is in it. My interest level just ticked up a very slight notch.
Update: According to the cast list, Lee Byung-hun is playing the T-1000. You may remember him as Storm Shadow from the G.I.Joe live action movies.

He's Back, And He's Old!
Credit: The Daily Mail |
The Daily Mail managed to get their hands on some on set pics from Terminator: Genesis, the "reboot" of the Terminator film franchise. It stars Emilia Clarke from Game of Thrones as the new Sarah Connor and Jai Courtney from Spartacus & A Good Day to Die Hard as the new Kyle Reese. The film also stars Jason Clarke as the new John Connor, and Arnold Schwarzenegger who returns to the franchise as an aging Terminator. In an interview with MTV, Arnold explained why the Terminator looks older.
“The way that the
character is written, it’s a machine underneath. It’s this metal skeleton. But above that is
human flesh. And the Terminator’s flesh ages, just like any other human being’s
flesh. Maybe not as fast. But it definitely ages.”
Who knows where this movie will fit in the already convoluted Terminator timeline. Sarah & Kyle are both at a relatively young age. John Connor is being played by a 44 year old actor. And you have a grey haired Terminator in the mix. All signs point to some form of time travel within the movie that gets all of them together.
The franchise is batting .500 with the last two which had no James Cameron involvement being pretty bad. Where is this one going to land? Terminator: Genesis is directed by Alan Taylor who has directed multiple episodes of Game of Thrones (no wonder Emilia Clarke was cast!) and Thor: The Dark World, and will hit theaters on July 1, 2015.

Underdogs
But underdog fights are great. It's good vs evil, small vs big, right vs wrong. In many cases, good prevails because that's what the audience likes. In some cases, the good guy loses but has some kind of moral victory. In the movies, the bad guy rarely wins. George R.R. Martin isn't one to follow convention so the Oberyn/Mountain fight may have a quick and painful end for us, but who knows. Actually, book readers know so no spoilers! So Barney not withstanding, let's take a look at some of the more entertaining underdog fights in pop culture history.
