BIRDMAN International Trailer
Here's something to keep on your radar for the fall. Michael Keaton stars in Birdman, as an actor who once played an iconic superhero, and is now trying to mount a comeback by putting on a Broadway play. It's a very meta story since Keaton played Batman 25 years ago, minus the play of course, but the film looks to be a really fun & dark look into an actor who's past his prime but is still struggling with that fact. There's some quality talent in this movie with Edward Norton, Zach Galifanakis, Emma Stone, and Naomi Watts in it. And can we all agree that Michael Keaton just need to be in more things?
FYI, the trailer is slightly NSFW with some language. Birdman hits theaters October 17th.
LEGO Guardians of the Galaxy
I love LEGO, and I seriously hope I love Guardians of the Galaxy which opens this Friday. Combine the two, and you get a kick-ass stop motion trailer that makes me want a LEGO video game of this movie. But seriously, there's some nice work done in this trailer re-creation.

Latest Trailer for Interstellar Has All the Feels
The latest trailer for Interstellar debuted at Comic-Con, and now it's finally available online. From the sweeping music, to Matthew McConaughey's subtle performance, to the generally bleak plot of the film, the trailer is packed with emotion as McConaughey's character says goodbye to his daughter as he heads off into space to save humanity not knowing if he'll return. Christopher Nolan is one of the few directors whose movies I'll see based solely on their name alone. This trailer makes me believe he's got another great movie lined up for us.
Interstellar opens November 7th.
Deadpool Test Footage in High Quality
You've probably already seen the leaked Deadpool test footage earlier this week with Ryan Reynolds voicing the character in a blurry video that was taken by a camcorder. Now, Rob Liefeld has pretty much confirmed that the footage is real and very much in the test phase.
To ALL who have enjoyed seeing the DP footage, enjoy it for what it is. Test's are done for films all the time and you have glimpsed process
— robertliefeld (@robertliefeld) July 29, 2014
And that video is now available in higher quality. Check it out!UPDATE: The test footage keeps getting taken down due to copyright claims by Fox. Hope you got to see it while it was up!
UPDATE #2: Gonna try to keep updating this to include the video!
The footage is funny, definitely at least R rated, and makes me think a CGI movie for this might be a good option. But as Liefeld has said, this is only test footage, and the higher ups at Fox would have the last say. And we all know how bright those executives can be. ;)

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies First Trailer
When we last left the Hobbit in Desolation of Smaug, the titular dragon had just taken flight when Bilbo and the Dwarves failed to kill him. Now we get to the true desolation of Smaug with the first trailer to the third and final movie in the series, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. And in a really nice atmospheric move, the music to the trailer is Pippin's song which he sings to Denethor in Return of the King.
And now, how about a trailer breakdown since it's been a while?

Assassin's Creed Parkour!
Parkour, a method for getting from point A to B in the most efficient and creative way possible has been a viral Internet sensation for quite a while. The Assassin's Creed video game series has employed this method in all of their games. Combine the two, and you get the following kick ass YouTube video from user devinsupertramp who has done these kinds of videos before.
It's basically a trailer for the upcoming game, Assassin's Creed Unity, where four assassins are chasing after 2 French officers through the streets of modern day Paris. And for the first time, the game will have 4-player co-op. The game drops October 28, 2014.
Mockingjay Part 1 Teaser Trailer
Okay, I'll admit I'm a little behind in my Hunger Games as I haven't seen Catching Fire yet. But here's the first official teaser trailer for the sequel, Mockingjay Part 1. It features two new characters. Julianne Moore as President Alma Coin, and Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones) as Cressida.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 opens November 21, 2014. So I guess I really should get to seeing Catching Fire... ;)

Wonder Woman Costume Reveal
Seriously, with the Internet, do you even need to attend Comic Con anymore? Anyway, Zack Snyder released the first image of Gal Gadot in her Wonder Woman outfit and here it is!
Not the color I was expecting, but I'm okay with it. What do you think?
New Cast Members for Game of Thrones Season 5
New cast members for Game of Thrones season 5 were just announced at Comic Con. And here's the video of all the newbies introducing themselves!
It's a lot of new faces and a few familiar ones so let's take a closer look at who these people are and who they're playing.

Game of Thrones Season 4 Bloopers
Need a Game of Thrones fix? Well straight from Comic Con, here are the season 4 bloopers! It's always funny to see people mess up, especially when it's such a serious show like Game of Thrones.

Another Pirates Movie?!?
Variety is reporting that another Pirates of the Caribbean movie will be hitting theaters July 2017. It's easy to understand why they're making a fifth film in the series reportedly titled Dead Men Tell No Tales, since the franchise has brought in over $3.7 billion in at the box office, but the declining quality in the movies makes me wonder if the public's interest has waned on Captain Jack Sparrow. Though that $1 billion gross on the last film in the series serves to shut me up.
The Curse of the Black Pearl was an unexpected success which I really liked. Dead Man's Chest was okay, but At World's End was a movie that seemed bloated and complicated just for the sake of being bloated and complicated. The best thing to come out of those sequels was Davy Jones. The CGI was so incredible, it turned me off seafood for weeks. I "saw" On Stranger Tides on an airplane ride once, which means I fell asleep while watching it so my interest level has clearly not been that enthusiastic for a while, but who knows. Maybe in three years, that urge to see Captain Jack in action again will return.

Batman Eternal for Free

I haven't read this comic, nor have I read a Batman comic in years, so I can't comment on whether the story is good or not. But this one has 9 reviews of 4 stars or higher on Amazon. Plus, it's free so what have you got to lose?!?

Weird Al's 8 Videos in 8 Days
For the past week, "Weird Al" Yankovic has been releasing a new video every day promoting his new album, Mandatory Fun. Here's a convenient compilation of all the videos, and I've listed them from my least to most favorite.
Mission Statement
In the style of Crosby, Stills, & Nash's "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes," comes a song depicting corporate buzzwords used over and over that just flat out have no meaning. While there's nothing wrong with the song, I think for me it hits a little too close to home considering I hear a lot of this stuff at work already.
LEGO Batman Tumbler
Credit: usatoday.com |
There have been several iterations of the Batmobile in LEGO form, but the Tumbler from Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy will finally get the LEGO treatment at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, and officially go on sale in September. This is a monster set comprising almost 1,900 LEGO pieces, and the finished product will measure 15 inches by 9 inches. The set will even include a Christian Bale Batman and a Heath Ledger Joker. The set won't come cheap. This monstrosity will cost $199, but considering how detailed this looks, I'd say it's worth it. No word on whether there's an ejectable Bat-Pod, but I'm sure there are some creative minds out there who can figure out how to build one out of these parts.
Win a Private Screening of Star Wars Episode 7
J.J. Abrams is hitting all the right marks in his marketing for Star Wars Episode 7. Yes he still wants one lucky fan to be in the movie. But now to sweeten the pot, he's adding a private screening of the movie before it comes out for you and 20 of your family and friends in the convenience of your hometown. If that kind of swag doesn't get you to support Star Wars: Force for Change, I don't know what will. But listen to Abrams describe it himself nonchalantly in front of what could be an X-Wing fighter, but is more likely a Z-95 Headhunter, which is basically an X-Wing without the S-foils.

Which Late Night Host is the Bigger Star Wars Fan?
A coupe of months ago, J.J. Abrams released a video promoting Star Wars: Force for Change, an initiative that supports UNICEF and helps kids around the world. It also gives people a chance to actually be in the next Star Wars movie. Now Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are in on the fun trying to figure out who's the bigger Star Wars fan, and the results are ridiculously silly. And remember you still have a chance to be in Star Wars!

Ghostbusters/Ninja Turtle Crossover
I haven't regularly collected comics in about 20 years, and the last time I actually bought one was about 15 years ago- it was the Death of Superman trade paperback. But coming this October, thanks to IDW, two of my favorite franchises, Ghostbusters and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be crossing over in a four issue series, and I may buy my first comics in over 15 years. ;)
From the IDW press release:
"Transported to a different universe by a faulty invention, the TMNT find themselves in a New York City much like their own, but with one major exception: a rampant ghost problem! If that weren’t enough, the Turtles and their reluctant new hosts, the Ghostbusters, soon find that the Turtles didn’t come alone…"
If you're a Ghostbusters and/or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan, this crossover which is incidentally also the 30th anniversary for both franchises, is something to keep your eye on. And I'll definitely keep you up to date as more information comes out.

Master Jiang and the Six Kingdoms
The only animation I consume nowadays is whatever Pixar throws at me, and even then I don't get to see everything they put out. And I haven't been into any new Japanese animation in over a decade. There's just way too much out there. But Master Jiang and the Six Kingdoms, a Chinese animated feature film, looks extremely promising. Details are a little sparse on the film. It's mostly traditional hand drawn cel animation, and it's done by just two animators, Li Wei and Pei Fei, whose last work was an animated film called God Hunters. I have no idea what this movie is about but there is some beautiful animation going on in this trailer. Master Jiang and the Six Kingdoms releases sometime in 2016.

Day of the Doctor LEGO Stop Motion
The Ninth Doctor would call this "Fantastic!" It's a very clever LEGO stop motion of Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary special, The Day of the Doctor. It's only a little over 5 minutes worth of footage but it captures all the major points of the special. Plus, chances are if you're watching this, you already know the story so the LEGO-ness of this is just something fun to watch! Now how about we get an official Doctor Who LEGO set and/or video game?!?

Lego,

Mortal Kombat X: Raiden
You can't have a Mortal Kombat game without Raiden the thunder god. And here's his reveal trailer for the upcoming Mortal Kombat X, where he squares off against a new character named Kotal Kahn. The fight shows off his electrocution combos, his cheesy teleportation tricks, and his fatality. It's graphic, it's brutal, it's Mortal Kombat!

Doctor Who Series 8 Trailer
The first full length trailer to Series 8 of Doctor Who just came out, and it's got Daleks, dinosaurs, and darkness. The series seems to be going the darker route, contrasting Matt Smith's generally playful and lighthearted Doctor, as Peter Capaldi asks, "Am I a good man?" Can't wait!
Doctor Who returns on BBC One on August 23rd.

Super Mario Cake
This Super Mario stop motion video is probably the most creative thing you'll see today. In it, a sugar cookie Mario runs through World 1-1 from the classic Super Mario Bros. game on a rotating 4 tier cake. The video includes peanut butter blocks, cupcake goombas and koopas, and cake pop mushrooms. The one minute video took a week and a half to film, and it's pretty darn sweet. Pardon the pun... Dammit, now I want cake.
And you can also check out a behind the scenes video here. Very creatively filmed!
Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary Re-Release
Details for the re-release of Ghostbusters have just come out. The movie will be remastered in 4K and will be coming to select theaters on August 29th for one week only. So if you didn't get a chance to check it out in theaters 30 years ago, here's your chance! Assuming it's playing at a theater near you of course. Fingers crossed! Check out the trailer below!

Adam Savage's Workshop
Adam Savage is one of my favorite people around. You probably know him as the co-host of MythBusters. But he also has a website, Tested.com which expands on all his interests. He talks about all sorts of things from animation & MakerFaire to kitchen tools & movies on his weekly podcast, Still Untitled. Every now and then, he also has something called a "One Day Build" where he goes through the steps of building something for practical tool use or aesthetics in about a half hour. And if you've seen any of these videos, you'll notice that Adam works in a workshop that oozes creativity and nerdvana with all the tools and collectibles he has. And now you can take a short tour through his workshop. You get to see Adam's cornucopia of tools, his collection of costumes, and his display cases showcasing his movie paraphernalia. It's a great look into how he works and what he collects. I love Adam's enthusiasm and attention to detail and I wish I were as organized as he was. So take the tour below and remember MythBusters returns tonight on Discovery Channel!

Exodus: Gods and Kings Trailer
"This city is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions..." -Dr. Peter Venkman
The first trailer for Ridley Scott's latest film, Exodus: Gods and Kings just came out and here it is! The film stars Christian Bale as Moses, and Joel Edgerton from Warrior as Rhamses doing his best not to look like Conan O'Brien. The film tells the story of how Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt and will most likely be turned into some kind of action story because the trailer looks like a cross between Prince of Egypt and Gladiator. But it's Ridley Scott and Christian Bale, so color me interested. The film opens on December 12, 2014.

Guardians of the Galaxy Extended Trailer
This latest trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy includes some new, some old, a bit of both kinds of footage. The most notable of which is the first time Yondu, played by Michael Rooker from The Walking Dead has been shown in a trailer.
And if you'll note at the end of the trailer when Star Lord says he has 12% of a plan, that's the same amount of credit Tony Stark gave Pepper Potts for the creation of Stark Tower in The Avengers. I watch too many movies... ;) In any case, Guardians of the Galaxy opens August 1st.

Ten Most Entertaining Pro-USA Movies
I know this website has a worldwide audience, but here in the United States, it's coming up on the Fourth of July. It's Independence Day! So here's a list of ten films I think are the most pro-USA. They're not necessarily the most patriotic or the best, but I think they are entertaining and do a great job of taking the USA and shoving it down your throat, in a good way of course.

Optimus vs Devastator Stop-Motion
This is the best Transformers related video you will see this week, and I'm including the recent Michael Bay movie. It's a stop motion video featuring a Laser Optimus Prime squaring off against Devastator, aka Make Toy's Giant, a third party manufacturer of Transformer toys. It's a beautifully edited video complete with special effects and a a certain famous Transformers song. If you love Transformers, I guarantee this will make you smile.
