Eleven Films I'm Anticipating In 2017

Only a month into 2017 means a whole new crop of movies to get excited about! This year, I just couldn't narrow my list down to ten, so here are the eleven films I'm looking forward to seeing in 2017!

11. John Wick: Chapter 2

What's it about?: Legendary hitman John Wick is forced back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins' guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome, where he squares off against some of the world's deadliest killers. From Wikipedia.

Why I'm excited: The first John Wick was surprisingly fun! With Keanu Reeves back in an ass kicking role minus the Matrix special effects, John Wick was a very entertaining revenge flick. Acting skills be damned! Reeves is perfect for a hitman whose actions speak louder than his words.

When it opens: February 10th

10. Kingsman: The Golden Circle

What's it about?: Eggsy, Merlin and Roxy head to the United States to join forces with Statesman, Kingsman's American counterpart, after the HQ is destroyed by Poppy, a nefarious criminal mastermind. From Wikipedia.

Why I'm excited: Here's another film I was totally surprised by. The first Kingsman movie expertly straddled the line between James Bond & Austin Powers and gave us a highly stylized, and visually impressive spy/action movie. The first bar fight with Galahad (below) sold me on the movie and the church fight scene which is almost entirely one long continuous shot is just technically wonderful. Give me more of that!

When it opens: October 6th

9. Thor: Ragnarok

What's it about?: In Thor: Ragnarok, Thor must defeat the Hulk in a gladiatorial duel in time to save Asgard from Hela and the coming Ragnarök. From Wikipedia.

Why I'm excited: While I've been entertained by the two previous Thor movies, he probably remains my least favorite Avenger. Regardless of that, this is a Marvel movie after all and I expect it to be entertaining even if I forget everything that happens the minute I walk out of the theater.

When it opens: November 3rd

8. Logan

What's it about?: A weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. His attempts to hide from the world and his legacy, however, are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces. From Wikipedia.

Why I'm excited: The solo Wolverine movies have been pretty bad. But this is supposedly Hugh Jackman's last time as the character so I'm praying for a decent flick. The trailer is great so maybe Wolverine can go out on a high note.

When it opens: March 3rd

7. The Fate of the Furious

What's it about?: With Dom and Letty on their honeymoon, Brian and Mia having retired from the game, and the rest of the crew exonerated, the team has found a semblance of a normal life. But when a mysterious woman seduces Dom into a world of crime he cannot seem to escape, causing him to betray those closest to him, they will face trials that will test them as never before. From Wikipedia.

Why I'm excited: Fast Five is probably my favorite in the series as the films have gotten more and more ridiculous with each subsequent outing. But yeah, I gotta find out why Dom turns bad guy!

When it opens: April 14th

6. The LEGO Batman Movie

What's it about?: Batman goes on a personal journey to find himself and learn the importance of teamwork and friendship in the hopes of saving Gotham City from a hostile takeover set by The Joker. From Wikipedia.

Why I'm excited: The LEGO Movie was another film that surprised the hell out of me. Now you're taking one of the scene stealing characters and giving him his own movie with the same kind of humor? The LEGO Batman movie looks just flat out fun!

When it opens: February 10th

5. Justice League

What's it about?: More than a year after the events of Batman v Superman, inspired by Superman's sacrifice for humanity, Bruce Wayne and Diana Prince assemble a team of metahumans to face the catastrophic threat of Steppenwolf and the Parademons who are on the hunt for three Mother Boxes on Earth. From Wikipedia.

Why I'm excited: Batman v Superman haters be damned! It was by no means a perfect movie but I enjoyed it a lot. Plus I'm always a sucker for team up movies.

When it opens: November 17th

4. Wonder Woman

What's it about?: In the early 20th century, the Amazon princess Diana, who is living on the island of Themyscira, meets American military pilot Steve Trevor when he is washed ashore. After learning from him about the ongoing events of World War I, she leaves her home to bring an early end to the war. From Wikipedia.

Why I'm excited: As much as I enjoyed Batman & Superman in Dawn of Justice, Wonder Woman stole every scene she was in for me. And now she gets a solo movie? Sign me up? She's like the Batman of the LEGO Movie... ;)

When it opens: June 2nd

3. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2

What's it about?: Set two months after the first film, the Guardians of the Galaxy travel throughout the cosmos and struggle to keep their new-found family together, while helping Peter Quill learn more about his true parentage. From Wikipedia.

Why I'm excited: I loved Guardians of the Galaxy so much, I even bought their Funko figures. So color me excited to watch the continuing adventures of this group of space outlaws.

When it opens: May 5th

2. Spider-Man: Homecoming

What's it about?: Following the events of Captain America: Civil War, Peter Parker, with the help of his mentor Tony Stark, tries to balance his life as an ordinary high school student in Queens, New York City with fighting crime as his superhero alter ego Spider-Man as a new threat, the Vulture, emerges. From Wikipedia.

Why I'm excited: Did you watch Captain America: Civil War? Did you enjoy Spider-Man's small but highly enjoyable part? Then you should know why I'm so psyched to see this. And the trailer looks to get rid of that self loathing emo feel the last few movies have had, and brings Peter Parker back to the wisecracking teen hero I remember him as.

When it opens: July 7th

1. Star Wars: The Last Jedi

What's it about?: Rey continues her epic journey with Finn, Poe and Luke Skywalker in the next chapter of the saga. From IMDB.

Why I'm excited: Maybe it's because I still have Rogue One on my mind but I'm super excited to find out who the Last Jedi is/are! And seriously? Still no trailer?!?

When it opens: December 15th

To be honest, I only saw half the films I wanted to see in 2016 so who knows what I'll get to this year. But I am noticing that every film on my list is either a sequel or stars a character that has already been in another movie. I guess I like to keep things familiar. :) So what are some of the movies you're anticipating this year?
