Eleven Films I'm Anticipating In 2017

Only a month into 2017 means a whole new crop of movies to get excited about! This year, I just couldn't narrow my list down to ten, so here are the eleven films I'm looking forward to seeing in 2017!

11. John Wick: Chapter 2

What's it about?: Legendary hitman John Wick is forced back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins' guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome, where he squares off against some of the world's deadliest killers. From Wikipedia.

Why I'm excited: The first John Wick was surprisingly fun! With Keanu Reeves back in an ass kicking role minus the Matrix special effects, John Wick was a very entertaining revenge flick. Acting skills be damned! Reeves is perfect for a hitman whose actions speak louder than his words.

2016 nerdy views in Review

2016 was no doubt a savage year, and here at nerdy views, which is now three years old (yay!) it was definitely a year of transition. I started this site to write about movies, television, & entertainment in general, and this year I continued to move further away from that to focus more on building creative projects. And judging by the response I've gotten, it sounds like I'm doing a decent job. Anyway, I just wanted to take a look back at some of the things that made my 2016 memorable.

Celebs

Ghostbusters, Star Wars, Doctor Who, & the Power Rangers really does kind of sum me up. And add a little Fresh Price of Bel Air in there to top it off!

I met Peter Mayhew at WinterCon and he signed my Chewbacca Funko while he enjoyed his orange mocha frappuccino.

Steve Cardenas was the second Red Ranger from the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. I remember scheduling my college classes around that show.

I met Steven Moffat, the current Doctor Who & Sherlock showrunner just randomly at a Star Wars booth at San Diego Comic Con and I totally fanboyed it.

I met Ernie Hudson from the Ghostbusters at Hudson Valley Comic Con, and he was super nice in allowing me to take this selfie with him after he signed my Winston Zeddemore figure.

And finally, I wondered what Karyn Parsons from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air was doing at WinterCon, but it didn't matter why because she was super cool, and her show definitely helped shape my sense of humor when I was younger.

I can't imagine meeting any of these people under normal circumstances, but at conventions, there's always a chance!

Wonder Woman Trailer

A new Wonder Woman trailer is finally out!



Wonder Woman was easily the best part of the much maligned Batman v Superman which I actually enjoyed for what it's worth, so I'm super excited for this one.

The trailer starts with Wonder Woman walking through Paris.

If you haven't had a chance to see the latest trailer for Batman v Superman, here it is!



Since I took my sweet ass time to get to this, if you'd like to check out a really cool trailer breakdown, go read Katharine Trendacosta's post on io9. It's very detailed and hits on all the points I like. But, I'd still like to point out the three things I enjoyed the most about this trailer.

Holy Crap! Is That Doomsday?!?

Those were the exact words that came out of my mouth the first time I saw this trailer. It's been about 8 months since the last trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and since then it's been all about Captain America: Civil War and Star Wars: The Force Awakens so we were about due for some new footage. And here it is!



At three minutes long, there's a ton going on in this trailer so lets take a closer look.

The trailer starts with some kind of formal gathering, perhaps a press event? Anyway, Clark Kent, who seems to be covering the event wonders who's the popular person pulling up.

Wonder Woman Costume Reveal

Seriously, with the Internet, do you even need to attend Comic Con anymore? Anyway, Zack Snyder released the first image of Gal Gadot in her Wonder Woman outfit and here it is!

Not the color I was expecting, but I'm okay with it. What do you think? 

Justice League in 2018?

Wait, aren't we technically getting a Justice League movie in 2016 with Batman vs. Superman?!? I mean it's already jam packed with the actors above. In an article at the Wall Street Journal Speakeasy Blog, Warner Bros. president of worldwide production Greg Silverman said there are plans for a Justice League movie which won't hit theaters before 2018. And Zack Snyder will be back to direct it.

So that makes 3, count em THREE movies in the DC universe in 6 years? Meanwhile, Marvel will have had at least double that. At the snail's pace DC movies are coming out, maybe they need to get the Flash involved somehow to speed up production.

With Zack Snyder returning to direct, there will at least be some continuity in the visual style which was actually pretty good in Man of Steel. But if the storytelling remains in its disjointed flashback style, and maintains its heavy handed feel, what good is a beautiful movie if it's simply no fun to watch?
