I think this is my sixth year going to TerrifiCon? And it's definitely one of my favorite conventions to go to. It's not the hectic madhouse that San Diego & New York Comic Con can be. It's more of an organized chaos atmosphere! Anyway, here are some of the awesome cosplays I saw!

Eleven Films I'm Anticipating In 2017

Only a month into 2017 means a whole new crop of movies to get excited about! This year, I just couldn't narrow my list down to ten, so here are the eleven films I'm looking forward to seeing in 2017!

11. John Wick: Chapter 2

What's it about?: Legendary hitman John Wick is forced back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins' guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome, where he squares off against some of the world's deadliest killers. From Wikipedia.

Why I'm excited: The first John Wick was surprisingly fun! With Keanu Reeves back in an ass kicking role minus the Matrix special effects, John Wick was a very entertaining revenge flick. Acting skills be damned! Reeves is perfect for a hitman whose actions speak louder than his words.

When it opens: February 10th

Captain America: Civil War 2nd Trailer Breakdown

But let's not bury the lead here. It's the first time we're seeing Spider-Man! Admittedly, I would have liked his appearance to be a surprise when I see the movie for the first time, but whatever. He looks great, and I'm still totally excited to see this!

There's tons of new footage so let take a close look.

Marvel vs DC Epic Fan Made Trailer

YouTube user Alex Luthor pulled some video from Marvel and DC movies, TV, and video games and even some fan made superhero videos to put together this mashup trailer of epic proportions. The video starts off with Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill (I'm totally wrong on this. It's Amanda Tapping as Samantha Carter from Stargate SG-1. But it sounds so much like Smulders!) narrating about multi-verses, the existence of an infinite number of parallel dimensions. Doctor Doom is tinkering with the Tesseract until it explodes causing their universes to collide and all hell breaks loose. It has Superman squaring off against Thor, Batman and Iron Man pitting their techie, billionaire personas against each other, and Wonder Woman and the Hulk hurtling towards each other among other superhero appearances. The thing I love most is how well this trailer is edited. Reaction shots, fighting shots, it all looks great and actually makes sense. Just goes to show with good vision and some creative editing, an idea can turn into something epic.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Just Made Me Feel Old

I fear I'm no longer the target audience for the Amazing Spider-Man franchise. The nicest thing I can say about the latest film is that it didn't put me to sleep. While the action sequences were okay, the majority of the movie consisted of the on again, off again relationship between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy. This continues the teen angst trend started in the first movie. With Marc Webb, directing, I guess that should be no surprise considering his previous film, 500 Days of Summer, told the story of a young man reminiscing about a failed relationship. While that movie was well received, I simply have no interest in seeing teenagers or young adults dealing with relationship woes.

And that's exactly what Amazing Spider-Man 2 focused on. I understand that Peter Parker is supposed to have problems. He's juggling a girlfriend with fighting crime. Being a broke college student doesn't help and having a low paying photography job helps even less. But a lot of those elements are ignored for unneeded conspiracy theories of Peter's father's involvement at OsCorp, an especially hammy performance by Jamie Foxx as Electro, and the relationship drama I mentioned before.

When I see a superhero movie, I want to see the extraordinary. I want to see them do super things. I'm not above seeing just how much they're like normal people with normal problems, but when it's presented the way it was in ASM2, I felt like I got tricked into seeing a Twilight movie. With Webb signed on for the third installment due in 2016, you young people might enjoy it, but I'll probably be the grumpy old man talking about the gold ole days of Tobey Maguire and Sam Raimi.

So You Wanna Be Spider-Man?

You know the one thing keeping you from being Spider-Man, aside from getting bitten by a radioactive spider, is that pesky webshooter technology. Well thanks to Patrick Priebe, YouTube user AnselmoFanZero, we're just a bit closer. They're not exactly webshooters as it fires a mini-harpoon that can be retracted, but it's damn innovative. With a laser sight for aim, and a winch to retract the cable, you gotta love that German engineering. Patrick wins the Internet today.

His YouTube site also features other comic book inspired paraphernalia like Cyclops' goggles and Iron Man's gauntlet. You can check out his creations over at his site: www.laser-gadgets.com. And remember, with great power, comes great responsibility.

Green Goblin is so... Gobliney

The Wrap has a great close up photo of what Dale DeHaan will look like as the Green Goblin in the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man 2. It's so organically disgusting, rotting teeth, pointy nose, it looks like it's straight out of a Lord of the Rings movie. Sam Raimi's Goblin was such a letdown looks wise. This new Goblin look is a step in the right direction, although the lack of green skin is a bit bothersome. Of course the wrong shade of green skin and you have the Wicked Witch of the West or the Hulk. But so far, I'm just glad it's not a mask.

Amazing Spider-Man 2 Final Trailer Breakdown

The final trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 released today and it really shows way more action than we've ever seen before, which may be a good or bad thing depending on how you feel about spoilers. But it any case, it does make me pretty excited to see this film. Spidey seems to have dropped some of his angst ridden emo-ness and adopted his more familiar snarky attitude.

Friday January 3, 2014 Holiday Catchup

Happy New Year! Hope everyone enjoyed their holidays. Here are a few things that came up recently that you probably didn't miss, but I'd like to talk about anyway.

Credit: http://www.cinemablend.com

We've got our first look at the Guardians of the Galaxy, courtesy of director James Gunn's twitter. From left to right there's Zoe Saldana as green-skinned Gamora, Chris Pratt as anti-hero Peter Quill aka Star Lord, Rocket Raccoon who will be voiced by Bradley Cooper, WWE wrestler Dave Batista as musclebound Drax the Destroyer, and finally the giant tree dude is Groot who will be voiced by Vin Diesel. If you've watched the end credits of the last Thor movie, you'll get an idea of how weird this movie is going to be, and this group pic just reinforces that weirdness. You can check out a more detailed breakdown over at www.cinemablend.com.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Trailer Breakdown

Spider-Man is back, in a more classic costume, and bigger eyes! The trailer starts with Spidey falling through the sky and monologuing about making more enemies the longer he's around. That's when we get a brief look at the Rhino suit, which is basically a mech. I'm in for that because Paul Giamatti may be a good actor, but he's no musclebound Rhino.
