Fan Expo Boston Cosplay Quick Cut!

I went to Fan Expo Boston last year, took a bunch of video and never got around to editing it. Now I'm back from Fan Expo Boston 2018 with a bunch of video and I decided to edit it all into this quick cut of the coolest cosplay I saw the last two years. Thanks to all the cosplayers in this video!

Doctor Who Mini TARDIS 3D Print

I bought myself a little knockoff GoPro camera to take time lapse video of my 3D prints, and this is the last one I was able to do before the camera died on me and I had to return it. Enjoy!

2016 nerdy views in Review

2016 was no doubt a savage year, and here at nerdy views, which is now three years old (yay!) it was definitely a year of transition. I started this site to write about movies, television, & entertainment in general, and this year I continued to move further away from that to focus more on building creative projects. And judging by the response I've gotten, it sounds like I'm doing a decent job. Anyway, I just wanted to take a look back at some of the things that made my 2016 memorable.

Celebs

Ghostbusters, Star Wars, Doctor Who, & the Power Rangers really does kind of sum me up. And add a little Fresh Price of Bel Air in there to top it off!

I met Peter Mayhew at WinterCon and he signed my Chewbacca Funko while he enjoyed his orange mocha frappuccino.

Steve Cardenas was the second Red Ranger from the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. I remember scheduling my college classes around that show.

I met Steven Moffat, the current Doctor Who & Sherlock showrunner just randomly at a Star Wars booth at San Diego Comic Con and I totally fanboyed it.

I met Ernie Hudson from the Ghostbusters at Hudson Valley Comic Con, and he was super nice in allowing me to take this selfie with him after he signed my Winston Zeddemore figure.

And finally, I wondered what Karyn Parsons from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air was doing at WinterCon, but it didn't matter why because she was super cool, and her show definitely helped shape my sense of humor when I was younger.

I can't imagine meeting any of these people under normal circumstances, but at conventions, there's always a chance!

Connecticut ComiCONN 2015

This past weekend I went to Connecticut ComiCONN. Last year, it was a one day event at Webster Bank Arena. This year, they expanded to three days at Mohegan Sun, and it was a great decision. While the convention itself has gotten much larger, it's still not the utter crowded chaos that New York Comic Con is, and that ultimately is a good thing. It was a well organized event and Mohegan Sun is an excellent venue. I'll admit, by midday Saturday, I was getting kind of "conned-out." But I took a breather in the casino, played some slots, had a couple of drinks, and after that I was ready to head back in. I guess you can't really nerd out for three days straight. So here are some of the highlights of my Connecticut ComiCONN experience.

It's the Batmobile! The car from the 1966 series was on display along with a few cardboard cutouts of the Dynamic Duo.

Doctor Who Series 9 Trailer Breakdown

The Doctor and Clara Oswald will be back in a little over a month for Series 9 of Doctor Who. It looks to be a lot more of the same, but you know what? That's exactly what I want! Here's the second trailer for Series 9.

There's a lot going on in this trailer, and at this point none of it makes any sense. So let's take a closer look.

LEGO Time of the Doctor

A while back, there was a LEGO stop-motion of Day of the Doctor. Now, the ante has been upped with this full on LEGO rendering of the final scene of Doctor Who's Time of the Doctor. It brings back all the feels from Matt Smith's regeneration into Peter Capaldi, and makes me think a LEGO Doctor Who game just has to happen.

Connecticut ComiCONN

This past weekend, I went to Connecticut ComiCONN with the idea that I was going to cover the event as if I was press. I kind of saw it as a dry run for when I go to New York ComicCon later this year. And in the beginning, I was doing just that. I was taking pictures and thinking about what to write. And then I realized while I was thinking about what I wanted to cover and write about, I was missing exactly what I wanted to experience. So I chucked my original idea because let's face it, I'm not the press. I decided to just experience the day as a fan of all things nerdy and just have fun. So here's a little of what I saw.

I got a chance to meet some of the Connecticut Ghostbusters and check out all their awesome gear.

Doctor Who Series 8 Season Premiere Trailer

The trailer for Deep Breath, the season premiere of Doctor Who looks to have a dinosaur, the Paternoster Gang, and a redecorated TARDIS to go along with the introduction of Peter Capaldi as the new Doctor. According to executive producer Steven Moffat, there will be plenty of "action and nonsense and jeopardy." Can't wait!

Doctor Who premieres Saturday August 23rd on BBC One.

Day of the Doctor LEGO Stop Motion

The Ninth Doctor would call this "Fantastic!" It's a very clever LEGO stop motion of Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary special, The Day of the Doctor. It's only a little over 5 minutes worth of footage but it captures all the major points of the special. Plus, chances are if you're watching this, you already know the story so the LEGO-ness of this is just something fun to watch! Now how about we get an official Doctor Who LEGO set and/or video game?!?

Doctor Who Series 8 Trailer

The first full length trailer to Series 8 of Doctor Who just came out, and it's got Daleks, dinosaurs, and darkness. The series seems to be going the darker route, contrasting Matt Smith's generally playful and lighthearted Doctor, as Peter Capaldi asks, "Am I a good man?" Can't wait!

Doctor Who returns on BBC One on August 23rd.

Friday April 11, 2014 Catchup

The latest trailer for How To Train Your Dragon 2 just came out and it does reveal a major plot point teased in previous trailers so beware of spoilers! The first movie really surprised me with how entertaining it was, and this one doesn't look to disappoint either. Anyway, here it is! Useless trivia; the song used in the trailer is one of my faves, Kings and Queens by 30 Seconds to Mars, fronted by recent Oscar winner Jared Leto, in case you didn't know.

Monday March 3, 2014 Catchup

Credit: http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/59181

Doctor Who is something I've only recently gotten into and to find out that there were no LEGO sets available was disappointing. Apparently the merchandising license was owned by another toy manufacturer so LEGO had no rights to make any sets or to accept any fan made sets submitted to LEGO Cuusoo. But now that license has expired and Doctor Who is fair game. This is very similar to the process the Ghostbusters set went through. Fans submit their ideas, we vote on them, and then the folks at LEGO decide whether it's feasible to produce a version of the most popular set, like this one. So head on over to LEGO Cuusoo, check out some of these fan submissions, and hopefully we'll get a Doctor Who LEGO set sometime in the future.

Sherlock Meets The Doctor

Here's a fan made video of Sherlock Holmes meeting The Doctor.  Now, I'm a Doctor Who noob, but I'm definitely a fan of Sherlock, and this video was made with a lot of love for both franchises.  There are some amazing amateur video mashups being done out there, and here's one of them.
