TMNT and Real Ghostbusters in CGI

Ready for a blast from the past? YouTube user Zim Animation has updated the opening credits from the 1980's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon using 3D animation. Here's his video along with the original opening credits in an inset for comparison. I think the results are pretty spot on.

It looks like they're gonna give this treatment to a bunch of 80's cartoons because their next update is this snippet from The Real Ghostbusters, and I can't wait for the full video of this one.

Who ya gonna call? Apparently Zim Animation if you want CGI updates of your favorite cartoons!

Ghostbusters/Ninja Turtle Crossover

I haven't regularly collected comics in about 20 years, and the last time I actually bought one was about 15 years ago- it was the Death of Superman trade paperback. But coming this October, thanks to IDW, two of my favorite franchises, Ghostbusters and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be crossing over in a four issue series, and I may buy my first comics in over 15 years. ;)

From the IDW press release:

"Transported to a different universe by a faulty invention, the TMNT find themselves in a New York City much like their own, but with one major exception: a rampant ghost problem! If that weren’t enough, the Turtles and their reluctant new hosts, the Ghostbusters, soon find that the Turtles didn’t come alone…"

If you're a Ghostbusters and/or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan, this crossover which is incidentally also the 30th anniversary for both franchises, is something to keep your eye on. And I'll definitely keep you up to date as more information comes out.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Trailer #2

It's the second trailer to one of my favorite franchises, yet it's one of my least anticipated movies of the summer. Teenager Mutant Ninja Turtles has changed the turtle design so much they look like grotesque human/alien hybrids. There's even a joke in the trailer wondering if they're aliens, so you gotta believe they're in on the joke. This trailer shows off a lot more of the Shredder, and they've pumped him up to ridiculous proportions. But before you mock that, it's clear they took some cues from the Super Shredder in Secret of the Ooze. Oh wait, that movie was kind of horrible too. And can someone explain to me how the ooze made Shredder's armor grow as well?!? Anyway, I can't hide my disappointment anymore, here's the trailer!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles "New" Trailer

There's a "new" trailer out for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The reason I say "new" is because 90% of it is footage from the old trailer. The only new parts are slightly clearer close-up shots of all the Turtles and a silhouette of the Shredder. The buzz on these Turtles has ranged from sorta bad to oh my god, Michael Bay has ruined my childhood. My excitement level remains pretty low. Right now I'm scratching my head wondering what they did to Donatello?!? But they're the Turtles and even if I'm not psyched for the movie, I'm glad the franchise is still alive, even if this movie does end up killing it off. So check out the trailer, and wonder what the character designers were smoking when they created this.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles First Trailer Breakdown

The first trailer of the Michael Bay produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles just dropped and I'm well... I honestly don't know what to think about it. I keep telling myself to keep an open mind about things, and not lose my cool over stuff that ultimately I have no control over, and I know it's just a teaser, but it feels like they've changed so much to the point it's not even identifiable as TMNT. The trailer alludes to the mythology of how the turtles came to be as an experiment, not an accident, and was contributed to by both April O'Neil (Megan Fox)'s father and the Shredder (William Fichtner). You got that? Shredder is one of the pilots from Armageddon. He's the evil prison guard captain from The Longest Yard. He's the guy who adopted and abandoned Jimmy MacElroy in Blades of Glory. Bill Fichtner is a fine actor, but was Ken Watanabe busy that day? Also, the Turtles are friggin' huge! They're tall, they're beefy, basically completely Bay-ified. And they're super ugly too! I know they wanna go in a different direction but this feels like an off-ramp to another dimension. Anyway, the action moves super fast in this trailer so let's examine it a little more closely and see how well I can keep my cool.

Friday January 3, 2014 Holiday Catchup

Happy New Year! Hope everyone enjoyed their holidays. Here are a few things that came up recently that you probably didn't miss, but I'd like to talk about anyway.

We've got our first look at the Guardians of the Galaxy, courtesy of director James Gunn's twitter. From left to right there's Zoe Saldana as green-skinned Gamora, Chris Pratt as anti-hero Peter Quill aka Star Lord, Rocket Raccoon who will be voiced by Bradley Cooper, WWE wrestler Dave Batista as musclebound Drax the Destroyer, and finally the giant tree dude is Groot who will be voiced by Vin Diesel. If you've watched the end credits of the last Thor movie, you'll get an idea of how weird this movie is going to be, and this group pic just reinforces that weirdness. You can check out a more detailed breakdown over at www.cinemablend.com.
