Star Trek Beyond Trailer #2

Star Trek Beyond seems to be flying under the radar. I feel like I should be more excited for this film. Anyway, here's the second trailer for Star Trek Beyond!

The trailer came out Friday night and there are already more capable breakdowns of it on the Internet, so I'm just going to point out the things the look the most interesting to me.

James T. Kirk has daddy issues trying to live up to his dad, Chris Hemsworth. Trust me, any mortal would have problems living up to that guy.

The Enterprise launches out of a tube from a Starbase, I think?

These things look like a cross between the mines in Galaxy Quest and the squiddies from The Matrix. I guess I'll call them squid-mines for now. And they're ripping up the Enterprise good. Poor Scotty.

New bad guys look like something out of Halo or Mass Effect.

In the original timeline, the first Enterprise was destroyed when Kirk activated the self destruct sequence to prevent the ship being taken by Klingons. Here, those squid-mines make short work of the Enterprise.

This looks to be a new ally called Jaylah, played by Sofia Boutella who you might remember as Gazelle from Kingsman: The Secret Service.

I'm assuming this is Krall, the new bad guy played by Idris Elba.

Spock and McCoy discuss the fear of death. I feel like this would make a lot more sense if Spock had died like he did in the original timeline.

Krall mentions that humanity's weakness is unity. And Kirk respectfully disagrees.

The way this sequence was edited, I originally thought a ship was colliding into the Starbase, but now it looks like it might just be docking. But the design of the ship looks like the NX-01 from Star Trek: Enterprise.

Star Trek Beyond warps into theaters July 22nd.
